Smart Playlists

A smart playlist saves selection rules. Its tracks change as your library, likes, and listening history change. Use a regular playlist when you want to choose and order every track yourself.

This page describes the current D:\ECHO source. Entries may differ between installed releases and distribution channels.

  1. Open Playlists and create a smart playlist. Some views also offer a quick action based on recent listening.
  2. Start with a template: recently added, unplayed, liked, often played, forgotten, high resolution, random, or often skipped.
  3. Adjust filters, sort order, and track limit. The supported limit is 1 to 1000 tracks; matches beyond the limit are omitted from the result.
  4. Check the live preview and match count, then save.
  5. Edit the rules later from the playlist. To preserve today’s selection, create a regular playlist and add the tracks you want to keep.

Preview does not create a temporary playlist. It may pause during playback to avoid interfering with the current track; change a rule after playback stops to refresh it.

GoalConditions
New music you have not heardRecently added + unplayed
Favorites in one genreGenre + liked
Tracks you have forgottenPlayed at least once + not played in the last 90 days
Find incomplete tagsEmpty artist, album, or genre
Review frequent skipsSkip count at least 3

The editor also supports title, artist, album, codec, path, year, BPM, duration, sample rate, bit depth, bitrate, and listening dates. Conditions can match all or any, including groups. Begin with one or two rules and check the preview before adding more.

  • Check that the source folder is still in the library and the track limit is not cutting off matches.
  • Missing genre or BPM data cannot be inferred by a playlist rule. Check the file tags or analysis status.
  • Random and recent-play sorting can change the order as you listen.
  • Create a regular playlist with the current tracks if you need a stable, editable selection.

See Library Management for tags and Daily Listening for likes and history.
