Features Enabled by Default
This page follows defaultSettings and normalization in local D:\ECHO source at commit 75d84ae8e. It describes a fresh or missing setting. Saved preferences, migration, and edition data sync may change the effective value. Check the installed client and runtime status for your machine.
An enabled default is an initial switch value. It does not by itself mean a network connection is active, a scan is running, audio is being processed, or the feature ships in every edition.
Everyday defaults
Section titled “Everyday defaults”| Feature | Default | When it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Remember window size | On | Restores a previously resized window |
| Queue title-bar button and mouse gestures for track switching | On | Only when you use the control or gesture |
| Chinese cross-script search | On | Helps local searches match character variants |
| Virtualized album wall | On | Renders large album lists in smaller portions |
| Native file scanner and metadata reader | On, enforced by current normalization | Used during an import or rescan; they do not scan your whole drive on their own |
| Duplicate detection | On, strict mode | Shows candidates for review; it does not automatically delete files |
| Playlist operation backups | On | Protects some playlist changes; separate from full automatic data backup |
Lyrics, metadata, and display
Section titled “Lyrics, metadata, and display”| Feature | Default | Condition or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Lyrics, automatic search and application | On | A usable local or permitted source must match; you can replace a wrong result |
| Network lyrics, translation, romanization | On | Require connectivity, a source, and the corresponding text |
| Lyric timeline correction and theme filter | On | Relevant only on lyric views with matching data |
| Online metadata candidates | On | Require network access and an available source; this is not a music streaming or download service |
| Player waveform progress, visual spectrum, signal-path control | On | Display controls when playback data exists; none is itself a DSP switch |
| SoXR fallback protection | On | Used only when a relevant resampling path needs fallback |
Steam and system controls
Section titled “Steam and system controls”| Feature | Default | Condition or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Rich Presence | On, detailed mode | Requires the Steam edition and client; title, artist, album and coarse progress may be visible under Steam privacy settings |
| Steam listening stats and leaderboards | On | Require Steamworks; leaderboards can submit account-linked aggregate scores. Turning them off stops new submissions, not stored scores |
| Follow Steam language | On | Applies when Steam provides a language |
| Windows SMTC and taskbar progress | On | Apply only where the Windows integrations are available |
| Linux MPRIS | On | Applies only in supported Linux desktop sessions |
Check Settings -> Steam for the account-linked controls. Steam Cloud portable-settings sync is off by default; it must also be enabled in ECHO before automatic sync runs. See Using the Steam Edition.
Defaults that need context
Section titled “Defaults that need context”- Audio analysis, ReplayGain, ECHO SRC, PCM-to-SDM, gapless playback, and full automatic data backup are off by default. ReplayGain sub-options such as clipping prevention are preset on, but do nothing while ReplayGain itself is off.
- The current source defaults to
dataProtectionDisabled: true, so automatic protection snapshots are not a default safety net. Configure a backup directory, run one backup, and verify its result; see Backup and Migration. - The home waveform is off while the player-bar waveform progress is on. They are different views.
- The DSD file output preference defaults to
DoP, but the actual device, mode, and native host decide what is output. - An
MVsetting remains in the data structure, while the Steam distribution excludes the MV route. A stored default does not imply a shipped feature. - Wallpaper preferences do not mean a custom wallpaper file is selected.
See Settings for controls and Audio Output for actual playback-path checks.
